  6. Workflow is wrong. Should contain the following actions…

    1. Get current web page from Safari
    2. Get image urls from web page
    3. Download URL’s

  7. Workflows where a folder is created then later pointed to don’t work well, particularly when they’re send to other users. Absolute paths are broken. Peso’s outline above is correct; once you have the workflow, it’s best to create the destination folder manually then have the workflow set to point to it.

  8. Only works with Linked to images, doesn’t actually download the images on the page.

  9. As Vin says the process stops if there’s a gif on the page. To get around this try…..

    1. Get current web page from Safari
    2. Get image urls from web page
    3. Filter URL – whose name contains .jpg
    4. Download URL’s – where – (enter specified folder)

    optional
    5. Open images in preview

  12. Odd. I can’t get it to work either. I tried Simon’s suggestion. Perhaps it has something to do with the websites we are viewing?

  13. you can also create the folder first before you get the url’s from safari.

  14. Works for me except on websites that I pay for. That is, there is a 401 Authentication error when getting images. Any way around that?

  15. Can someone explain the items in the first dropdown box in the “Filter URL” action please? “Filter URL” seems like a powerful and useful action, but except for “Name” and “Entire URL”, it’s not clear to me what the other choices in the dropdown box do.

  16. This never worked for me. It creates the folder but does not download the images. Is there a simple way to debug this to see where iit is hanging up?

  17. it worked for me, at first it gave me errors, but I saved to a pre-existant folder
(and I took off the action where it creates a folder).

I haven’t tried the option of “On these webpages”, I’ll post when I’ve tried.

  18. Get Current Webpage
Get URLs of Images on These Webpages
    Download URLs

  19. Use the “Other…” option from the folder picker popup menu in Download URLs to create a new folder!!!!!!!

  20. Workflow of Simon Sturges is good.
It simply doesn’t work with any website. It’s a pity.
But there are some sites that work with it.

    Here is his workflow:
    1. Get current web page from Safari
    2. Get image urls from web page
    3. Filter URL – whose name contains .jpg
    4. Download URL’s – where – (enter specified folder)

  21. I’m not sure this is a good idea, since downloading any images that a person is not authorized would be considered copyright infringement. I think that people need to be aware. An innocent mistake could cost thousands, I know. IE used to have it, or maybe it still does, an option to get all images. Once it’s on your hard drive it would be considered a violation.

  22. It might be illegal, but I want to see how easy it would be for something else to get my images from the web page I am building.

  23. I think it’s a little rediculous that you can’t get pics that are displayed on a webpage with out any kind of problem. Why can’t you specify “Go to the current page, download all JPGs that are above 100x100px, and put them in a folder…” Every suggestion on here doesn’t work…

  24. Actually, I have an addendum to my previous post…

It works fine with normal websites… I was trying to scalp a bunch of Corvette Z06 C6 pictures off of a forum post my dad sent me and it didn’t work.

Apparently, it (automator) can’t see anything that’s contained inside of a post on a standard forum (this one was on vBulletin Version 3.0.3). Either links on the page or from the page, it just won’t see it… which is odd since they are just image links inside the source…

Any ideas for this kind of stuff?

    Comment by THE MAC GOD — October 9, 2005 @ 12:44 am

  25. This isn’t necessarily Automator’s fault; many sites have anti-leech code to prevent just this. One way around it is to copy the source to a local file, and use that. It usually works.
