1. I love this task….however….I would loke to have the message send autmoatically. HOw do I do this. It will compose a new message but there is no outbox on the new mail and it doesn’t automatically send it to the outbox….you still have to manually click send. We need to find a way to add a rule to mail to send a specified file name automatically without sending it manually

2. I am trying to find the “send mail” action… Apparently, and perhaps wisely for anti-spam reasons, Apple did not include one that i can find. I just want certain events to trigger notifications to myself. Has anyone written or found a “send mail” action? I can see how to send them if I can move them to the outbox… hmmm…?

4. I’ve noticed that several of the Mail Automator Actions are broken or semi-functioning. Especially the “Send Outgoing Messages” action (which is supposed to trigger SEND on a composed message but does not) and the “Combine Mail Messages” action (which is supposed to concatenate several emails into one text file… which would be QUITE handy if it worked at all). “Filter Mail Items” also seems wonky.

   Am I the only one running into these problems? I’m pretty certain that this is not a case of user error.

5. No, combine messages, send outgoing messages and a couple others don’t work for me either… it’s a shame too because they’re the easiest way to quickly get data from one computer to another.

6. I’ve reported these bugs to Apple. Hopefully they’ll do something soon to fix them. I was hoping to use some complicated (and circuitous) Automator functions for a project for work. The whole thing hinges on Mail, though. I’ll keep my fingers crossed. And in the meantime, I’ll have to brush up on my Applescript.

7. I’d also love for the Send Mail to actually send mail. Do you really think that Apple deliberately broke it to prevent spam? Then what is the point of having a ‘Send Mail’ task at all?

   It is simply broken IMO, and unless enough people complain directly to Apple, it will not be fixed for a long time.

8. Known bug with workaround. My Send Mail now works! From the Apple discussion boards:

   This is a documented bug. The work around for now is to set the “Send Outgoing Email” Action to Ignore Results from Previous Action under the Mail Messages disclosure triangle.

9. That bug was corrected in Automator 1.1 that installs with OS X 10.4.2 ..if it’s not working still, report to Apple!

10. I’m running 10.4.2. My Automator is still at version 1.0.1, not 1.1. And I just checked Software Update.

11. My bad, 1.0.1 is the latest version. I don’t know why you’re having this problem still, it should have been fixed…

12. I have been trying to use Automator to send group emails, but the send email functionality doesn’t appear to work. James, the discussion (http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?128@91.ZoJAa1S0ZvD.2@.68ae5c63) to which you refer above is gone. Do I infer that “send email” has never worked? I’m amazed at how difficult it is to find information about automator, especially WRT group emails.

    For what it’s worth, here’s my workflow:
    1. find groups in address book
    2. filter groups in address book
    3. group mailer
    4. new mail message (has no addressees, as these are supposed to input from #3)
    5. send outgoing messages

    I’ve tried without #4, with the open outgoing message in Mail, but that doesn’t work. I did succeed once in using the birthday mailer with actions #1 and #2 above, but the emails I want to send are business.
