According to the [release notes](http://blog.wired.com/cultofmac/2007/03/apple_releases_.html), the Mac OS X 10.4.9 [updater](http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304821) "Addresses an issue in which incorrect encoding could be used for the files created by the *New Text File* Automator action on Intel-based Macs."
So for those of you with Intel Macs who use the *New Text File* action and are having encoding errors, your prayers have been answered!
Excellent! I just ran into this bug a couple of days ago and figured it was due to PEBKAC error and not an actual error in the actions.
And here I figured perhaps my text really had been in Mandarin Chinese :)
